The Steyr 16-inch .300 AAC Blackout barrel (designed primarily as a drop-in conversion for the Steyr AUG platform) is a highly modular, short-stroke piston system that allows for tool-less caliber swaps. It excels at versatility, running both supersonic and subsonic ammunition seamlessly.
Key Barrel Specifications
- Caliber: .300 AAC Blackout
- Length: 16 inches (Cold Hammer Forged)
- Twist Rate: 1:8 (optimized for stabilizing both lightweight supersonic and heavy subsonic rounds)
- Muzzle Threads: 5/8x24 standard, making it highly compatible with modern suppressors
- Gas System: Highly adjustable 6-position gas regulator to fine-tune cycling with or without a suppressor
Compatibility: Fits all standard Steyr AUG models and requires no additional tools or parts to switch from 5.56x45mm.
Notable Design Features
- Suppressed Use: The barrel was deliberately designed around suppressed environments. To reliably cycle sub-sonic ammunition, Steyr recommends using a non-flowthrough (traditional) suppressor along with their Enhanced Trigger Spring Kit to improve reliability with low back-pressure cans.
- Safety & Warnings: Because of the similar dimensions, .300 BLK ammunition will chamber in a 5.56 barrel and vice-versa, but it is extremely dangerous to fire the incorrect caliber. Steyr recommends strictly observing the caliber markings engraved on the barrel.
